Help Prof. Elm get out of gambling debt!
Description
Pokemon Crooked Crystal is a reimagining of the classic Pokemon Crystal, designed to enhance gameplay while preserving its nostalgic charm. For example, HM03 Surf is now a Key Item—the Lapras Suit—though a reusable TM for Surf remains available at the same time.
The story takes an intriguing turn: After losing a rigged bet on the Bug Catching Contest, Professor Elm mired in debt, refuses to pay Team Rocket. Tasked with raising a Pokémon to protect Elm, you’ll travel through Johto, earning Gym Badges, exposing Team Rocket’s corruption, and unraveling their deeper, more sinister plans.
This hack introduces a more diverse set of wild and trainer Pokémon, an expanded and intensified Team Rocket/Radio Tower plotline, added lore about Kanto’s limited map, and plenty more surprises in this more challenging version of Crystal.
Features
- All NPC dialogue has been replaced with silly nonsense. For example, Falkner thinks he’ll become a bird if he eats enough birdseed. The other Violet Gym trainers are worried about this
- All 251 Pokemon are available, including added storylines for Gen 1 legendaries
- An updated storyline that introduces additional wrinkles to Team Rocket’s plot, including an explanation for Kanto’s infamous limited map
- Key Item replacements for HMs
- Routes/caves/water etc. have higher diversity, with rare species becoming available earlier on
- Trade evolutions now either use Stones or evolve by level-up
- Revivable fossils
- The leveling curve has been modified to be more challenging
- Much stronger Trainers, Rival encounters, Gym Leaders, Team Rocket, Elite Four, and Red
- Unlimited rematches of the Elite Four and 15 of 16 Gym Leaders (not Whitney lol)
- Some TMs are different
- Updated Game Corner prizes and Move Tutor
- Updated NPC trades
- Some moves have been updated
- No more annoying Trainer phone system (sorry if you enjoyed this, to me it was always a bother)
- Useful items (including Kurt’s Pokeballs) are more plentiful and available earlier. Can also get items from Rock Smash
- Updated Mart inventory across Kanto and Johto
- Wider Pokemon movesets/learnsets
- Move Reminder replaces the Move Deleter (since HMs are gone)
- Infinitely reusable TMs
- Some item SELL values have been modified
- Your team gains experience when you catch a Pokemon
- Pocket PC allows you to access the PC anywhere
- Added the GS Ball event, for catching Celebi
- Probably more!

Crooked Crystal uses the Pokecrystal disassembly code as a base. Thank you to everyone who helped compile the source code, as well as those who contributed to the Pokecrystal tutorial pages.
Does this have the physical/special split?
I was having fun with this. Then I encountered some kid with level 70-ish pokemon in the freaking national park.
After barely escaping with my life via lowering accuracy and reloading saves, I am now still playing this but I’m now saving before each trainer. It’s not paranoia if they really are out to get you.
The hack is fun otherwise but that was weird. Hopefully it was unintentional (rather than something the creator threw in to build character). Until the next update, I recommend saving the game before each trainer in the national park (the fight is doable but not fun as a jumpscare).
How do i evolve to gengar, alakazam, and machamp?
Haunter to Gengar at level 40.
Kadabra to Alakazam around 36-38
Unsure about Machoke to Machamp probably somewhere similar
Sour Crystal is at version 5.2!
Probably one of the best hacks I’ve ever played as far as catching mons goes. The dialog is hilarious. The only issue I have with it is the teams and moves you go against. I beat Whitney pretty easily so that’s where I am now. People having fully evolved Pokémon with moves like earthquake and psychic while you have ember and tackle is nuts. I mean it’s challenging but I feel the only reason I’ve been doing well is because I’ve been playing gen 2 for 24 years. LOL A new person coming into this man I don’t know. There is something super relaxing about it being a vanilla play through. I mean team rocket having a level 20 Crobat was nuts. I am currently unable to play against this one NPC that has 2 Kadabra and 1 alakazam at level 27. All know ice, fire and thunder punch while packing a psychic. So I have to dodge this trainer and come back later. Hahaha. I think you should have weaker Pokémon at higher levels and fully evolved at lower levels if you’re going this route. Like someone has a level 30 Zubat, 25 Golbat and a level 20 Crobat. That’s cool. I dig a challenge but I don’t feel this game should be THAT hard. Definitely save after every battle.
Ian readin allat niqqa 💀💀💀
Probably cuz you’re retarded
until now it’s a good hack.
but what the heck did u with the Tenager at the National Park (right side on the exit)!?
Yanma at lv73 and a freakin’ Sandslash at lv74!!!
not saving before disaster, my 25+ Team managed to defeat the 73 Yanma…
should be fixed asap
