Description

Built from the ground up with hardcore Nuzlocke players in mind and designed to balance difficulty, accessibility, and convenience.

It introduces a unique feature, encounter traders. These NPCs let you trade freshly caught Pokémon from a route for valuable items like TMs or held items, encouraging smart decision-making. Also, it feels good to finally have a use for that useless 5th water type you just got, right?

Most of the features that I’ve added were considering that this would be played in a hardcore Nuzlocke but whether you’re in it for the challenge or just exploring something new, Trade & ‘Stache offers a fresh Pokemon experience.

Features

  • A minimized map design for fast, convenient gameplay — most routes are blocked off and contain only grass for encounters
  • Super Candy that instantly levels your Pokémon to the current level cap
  • Status Spray items to inflict status conditions on your own Pokémon for strategic advantages
  • Streamlined trainer count (about 40–50 total), each with handcrafted, meaningful battles
  • Swalot receives a major buff and Whiscash gets a reasonable power boost
  • Modern movesets and battle mechanics
  • Pokemon from Gen 1–3 are available. Nearly all species except box legendaries and a few exceptions are obtainable

Creator Note

I want to thank the developers for Porymap, a tool I used to edit the map, and the developers at RHH. I used their pokeemerald-expansion 1.12.1, which already had a ton of things like modern mechanics, modern sprites and many QoL changes. Their discord community was also very helpful and nice!

Also, for those more experienced at nuzlockes, the difficulty of this game is smaller than the hardest hacks like Run and Bun, but is harder than games like Renegade Platinum. I made it with the intent of being beatable but pretty hard without using damage calculators. ~CSQ4778

Additional Helpful Info

The movesets are largely the same as gen 9 learsets, with mostly just level changes. Some niche moves or additional stab moves were also added sometimes

The AI behaves very similarly to vanilla gen 3 AI, with some slight changes. The biggest difference is the switch-in after you KO an enemy, where it looks at a super effective move against your pokemon but looks for the best typing against your pokemon instead of the weakest type like in vanilla. What is considered “best typing” i am not 100% sure but it should be obvious most of the time. It also seems to like damaging moves that are guaranteed to lower some of your stats (rock tomb, skitter smack , icy wind etc.) though I am not sure how that works.

If you are unsure of where to go, there’s probably a psychic male npc that will warp you somewhere (very elegant solution, i know).

The only 2 pokemon to have received stat changes in Trade & ‘Stache are Whiscash and Swalot:

Whiscash has now 110 hp and 90 in all other stats

Swalot has now 110 in every stat
