Description

Inspired by the Legacy series by SmithPlays, this FireRed and LeafGreen hack aims to fix many of the issues in the original FRLG while keeping its classic feel.

FireRed and LeafGreen were some of the first Pokémon games I played, and while I love many of their features, they made some frustrating design choices—like removing cross-generation evolutions. Kanto itself carries over a lot of problems from Gen 1, and the remakes didn’t fix them. Like in Legacy, I wanted to keep the original experience intact while making meaningful improvements.

I’d say this game is about 80% true to Legacy, but I also made my own changes where I felt necessary—such as adjusting maps (because Mt. Moon really needed it). Overall, this should feel like one of the closest takes on a true FRLG Legacy-style game. Built using the Decomp Project.

Features

Pokemon & Regional Changes

  • All Kanto and Johto Pokémon available in both versions.
  • Main Dex: 181 Pokémon (151 original + 30 new).

    • Some additional Pokémon obtainable through secret means.
  • Map improvements to make areas feel less empty (e.g., Cinnabar Island, Mt. Moon).
  • New areas:
    • Mt. Moon Square
    • Additional Rock Tunnel floor (accessible with Rock Smash).
