Description
Pokemon Crossroads is a ROM hack of Pokemon Emerald developed by the Crossroads Dev Team.
It combines the regions of Hoenn, Kanto, and Johto (in development) into one seamless, epic adventure — the kind of ultimate Game Boy Advance experience Game Freak might have created if they had merged these regions back in the day.
Story
What if Game Freak had built the ultimate Game Boy Advance Pokémon adventure?
Pokemon Crossroads lets you step into the shoes of a young trainer journeying across not just Hoenn, but also Kanto and (coming soon) Johto — all connected seamlessly into one grand storyline.
Built on the powerful pokeemerald-expansion engine, we’ve integrated systems to bring these worlds to life authentically.
Features in Current Version (Beta 1.1)
- Three Fully Explorable Regions: Traverse Hoenn, Kanto, and the Sevii Islands in a connected and professional world.
- Dual Complete Storylines: Experience the complete narrative campaigns of Pokémon Emerald and FireRed together.
- 16 Gym Badge Challenge: Prove your mastery by collecting all 8 Hoenn badges and all 8 Kanto badges.
- Choice of Starting Region: Choose to begin your journey in Pallet Town (Kanto) or Littleroot (Hoenn) via dedicated patches.
- Seamless Region Switching: Travel between regions instantly via the Pokémon Centers in Viridian City or Oldale Town.
- Multi-Region AreaNav: Fully functional and accurate minimaps for each region within the AreaNav menu.
- Modern Technical Base: Built on the pokeemerald-expansion engine , ensuring modernized battle mechanics and stability.
Known Issues
- Trainer Card: Kanto badges do not currently appear on your Trainer ID card.
- Regional Travel: Travel between Kanto and Hoenn via the Pokémon Centers in Viridian City or Oldale Town.
- Save Compatibility: Existing Pokémon Emerald save files are not compatible due to expanded memory allocation. Old saves are unlikely to ever work.
- Some specific items ported from FireRed are currently non-functional.
Recommended Emulators
- PC / Mac / Linux: mGBA (highly recommended — best accuracy and debugging)
- Android: Pizza Boy GBA, Lemuroid, or RetroArch (with mGBA core)
- iOS: Delta, RetroArch (with mGBA core), or Ignited
- Handhelds (Steam Deck, Anbernic, etc.): RetroArch with mGBA core

Important – Two Starting Options
Now you only need one single patch to choose your preferred starting region:
- Start in Hoenn (Littleroot Town, like vanilla Emerald)
→ Ideal if you want the classic Emerald experience first, with Kanto accessible later. - Start in Kanto (Pallet Town) just pressing SELECT button when the game boots
→ Jump straight into the FireRed-inspired story, with Hoenn accessible later.
Both starting options share the same core features, story access, and 16-badge journey. The only difference is your starting location and initial storyline focus.
